Two men who were prosecuted for the murder of a man in Umeå were released when the trial against them ended on Wednesday, local media report.
In October last year, a severely injured man was found outdoors in the Mariehem area. He had been stabbed around 20 times with a sharp object, likely a knife, according to the Prosecution Authority. The man died in hospital.
Two young men, who had been detained since June, were prosecuted for the murder. Both have denied the crime.
During the final arguments, prosecutor Edvard Breitholtz demanded that the two be sentenced to life imprisonment, reports SVT News Västerbotten.
But on Wednesday afternoon, Umeå District Court decided to release the men.
The verdict in the case will be announced on October 9.
