The number of controls performed by the Customs Authority has increased and last year, more than 115,000 sobriety checks were carried out at border crossings. A total of 760 affected drivers were detected and every fourth driver was operating a heavy vehicle.

"The danger posed by a driver who operates a vehicle weighing over 30 tons is something we can all understand. No one wants to encounter such a vehicle on the road," says Martin Norell, an expert at the Customs Authority, in a press release.

The largest number of affected truck drivers were stopped at the Port of Trelleborg, 74 individuals. The highest number of drunk drivers was detected at the Öresund Bridge, a total of 158 individuals. At the Öresund Bridge, a clear majority of the drunk drivers stopped were either car drivers or motorcyclists.
