The Stade de France was stunned when Armand "Mondo" Duplantis, in his final attempt, improved his world record and cleared 6.25 meters. Deafening cheers.
Dad Greg and mom Helena Duplantis say that the OS in Paris was something extra special.
It was absolutely fantastic. He has competed in front of a large audience before, but what was this? 80,000 spectators and a full house. Some don't like it, but he loves it. It gave him fuel, says Greg.
He compares it to how it was in Tokyo three years ago when "Mondo" took gold, but during a pandemic.
The other was the OS, but no audience and no family, no friends. It felt strange and was just weird. This is the OS for real and Paris has made it fantastic.
Now the world's best pole vaulter can indulge. The family will eat fried chicken.
Because he loves it. He's from Louisiana in the south, we love Kentucky fried chicken, says Greg.
And there's a Kentucky fried chicken nearby, says Helena and laughs.
Hasn't he eaten enough?
Maybe not, he's eaten super strictly, he's very slim and well-trained. And now he wants some junk food, says the dad.
