The far right in the Netherlands will be responsible for, among other things, migration policy, trade, and aid in the new government that is finally being formed after the parliamentary election in November.
There is a deal. You will hear more about it in the coming days, said far-right leader Geert Wilders, whose PVV became the largest party in the election, to journalists in The Hague on Tuesday, according to the AFP news agency.
No names have been made public yet, but according to the newspaper De Telegraaf, the liberal VVD is expected to appoint the finance, defence, justice, and environment ministers, while the newly formed conservative NSC will get both the foreign and home affairs ministerial posts. The agrarian populist BBB will be responsible for housing and agricultural issues.
None of the four party leaders are expected to take a seat in the new government, which will be led by independent Dick Schoof, a long-time civil servant at the justice department.
