I was told by my sisters that everything was calm with her, but she was clearly shocked, he says to the newspaper.

Kiese Thelin played for Karlslunds IF until he was recruited to IFK Norrköping at the age of 19. Karlslunds arena Rosta gärde is located in close proximity to the campus that was hit by the deadliest school shooting in Swedish history on Tuesday.

It's terrible. All thoughts and prayers to the affected. You immediately call your closest family and check that everything is calm, he says to Sydsvenskan.

One becomes shocked and scared. We're not used to having problems with shootings like in Stockholm or here (Malmö).

Kiese Thelin is very familiar with the area around Risbergska school.

I cycled past there every time on my way to my training. I know the area very well. But I didn't know it had become a vocational school, I thought it was a high school. That's what it was during my time. So I thought immediately it was a shooting among young people.

The MFF star, who has played over 30 international matches for Sweden, is worried about the development in the country.

It's starting to go downhill in many ways with society, I think. I hope we can turn it around, he says.
