Meta, which owns, among other things, Facebook and Instagram, is planning to build an underwater cable between five continents.
The cable is to transmit data, including to enable the development of AI faster.
According to the company, which is presenting its plans in a blog post, the cable will be over 50,000 kilometers long and will connect the USA, South Africa, Brazil, India, and "additional regions".
The project is called "Waterworth" and is, according to Meta, a multi-billion kronor affair that will stretch over several years.
