The government's guidelines on the cultural canon have been criticized for lacking diversity and for prioritizing ideology over literature. Despite this, Marlen Eskander expresses confidence in Culture Minister Parisa Liljestrand's (M) vision in her farewell email.
"I have done my utmost to fulfill the expectations placed on a cultural canon – that it should be a tool for education, community, and inclusion", she writes in the email that Aftonbladet has been given access to.
A secretary has also chosen to leave the committee's work.
As recently as last week, the organization Sveriges nationella minoriteter criticized Lars Trägårdh's investigation and claimed that the committee does not follow the government's directives to "have a dialogue with the indigenous Sami people and the other national minority organizations".
The committee is to deliver the Swedish cultural canon by August 31, 2025.
