The fast food chain McDonald's reports an unexpectedly low sales during the third quarter of the year. Sales in comparable restaurants, which have been open for more than 13 months, fell by 1.5 per cent.
This is the second quarter in a row with a negative figure for sales in comparable restaurants. During the second quarter, the decline was 1.0 per cent.
The headwind was particularly evident in France, China, the UK, and the Middle East. In the USA, sales increased by 0.3 per cent.
McDonald's has simultaneously started the fourth quarter with a significant setback after E. coli bacteria spread from hamburgers from the chain in the USA – likely via the sliced onions on the Quarter Pounder hamburger.
