The American airline Southwest Airlines reports that 15 percent of administrative employees – approximately 1,750 people – will be laid off this year, as part of a cost-cutting package.
"This decision is unprecedented in our 53-year history, and changes require us to make tough decisions," says CEO Bob Jordan in a press release according to CNBC.
"We are in a critical time as we transform Southwest Airlines into a more agile, faster, and more efficient organization," he continues.
The layoffs will mainly take place at the end of the second quarter.
The goal is net savings of 210 million dollars (approximately 2.2 billion kronor) this year and around 300 million dollars next year.
