The victim, a 65-year-old man, was shot dead inside a store in Husby in northern Stockholm on Wednesday afternoon. Police officers were in the immediate vicinity and heard the shots, and the man was arrested just two minutes later, according to the prosecutor's detention request.
In connection with the intervention, the police officers were fired upon by the perpetrator and also returned fire, but no one was injured.
According to information in several media outlets, the victim is related to a leading figure in the criminal gang environment, and the case is shrouded in high secrecy. The suspect's identity is being kept secret despite being detained, something that has become increasingly common due to the threat picture in gang crime, and the hearing on Friday afternoon was held entirely behind closed doors.
The detained man is suspected of murder, two counts of attempted murder, and aggravated weapons offenses. According to the court protocol, he denies the crimes.
