The man claims that he was urged to do it as revenge for the Koran burnings, but that he was brainwashed.
The assignment is said to have come from IS. According to the prosecution, they had been in close contact with individuals from the terrorist group about carrying out an attack on the Swedish Riksdag. At least ten people were to be killed in the attack, and the men were, according to the indictment, themselves prepared to die as martyrs.
As evidence, conversations on Telegram and searches for Stockholm, how to get there and where to stay overnight, are presented.
The trial against the two men began almost two weeks ago in the city of Jena. Both are Afghan citizens and, according to the prosecutor, have links to IS Khorasan, the 30-year-old as a member and the 23-year-old as a sympathizer. The two were arrested in the city of Gera in March in a raid by the special forces, following a decision by Germany's Federal Prosecutor Jens Rommel. They had been under observation for a long time.
The trial is planned to continue until the end of January 2025.
