France's president Emmanuel Macron will remain in office as the country's president for the remainder of his term, regardless of the outcome of the parliamentary election, whose first round takes place on 30 June.
"You can rely on me to be your president, your constant defender of the republic, our values", he writes in an open letter published in French media.
According to opinion polls, the far-right party National Rally (RN) is leading overwhelmingly ahead of the election.
