The world's perhaps most famous painting "Mona Lisa" is to get its own room in the Louvre, announces France's President Emmanuel Macron.
The change will take place in connection with a renovation of the Louvre, which according to Macron is extensive and will take several years to complete.
The renovation will bring a new entrance near the Seine River and underground rooms, says Macron in a speech on Tuesday held in the Salle des Etats hall, where "Mona Lisa", by Leonardo da Vinci, is on display today.
Macron does not reveal what the cost of modernizing the world-renowned – but very outdated – museum will be, but is estimated to amount to hundreds of millions of euros.
The last update of the Louvre was made in the 1980s when the famous glass pyramid was unveiled.
