Luleå's Markus Nurmi tried to deceive the referee into giving an opponent a penalty by throwing himself onto the ice in the SHL quarterfinal against Växjö.
An action for which he is now being fined, announces the Swedish Ice Hockey Association's disciplinary committee. The fine amounts to 5,000 kronor.
"The puck bounces around in Växjö's defensive zone and Nurmi heads towards the puck when he is slowed down a bit by a Växjö player. Nurmi then chooses to release both skates from the ice and throws himself flat onto the ice. This is diving/enforcement", it was written in the report, according to the SHL website.
Luleå won the fourth quarterfinal with 4–3 after overtime and can secure a semifinal spot on Friday.
