Swedish Swimmer Erik Persson Falls Short in World Championship Semifinal

Erik Persson is trying to find his way back to the old times. He did not do so in the World Championship semifinal on 200 meter breaststroke in Singapore and was eliminated. Swimming is a mystery even if you have been doing it for a long time, says the 31-year-old.

It became a final 13th place and it lacked just over 1.5 seconds to a place among the eight final swimmers.

The time 2.10,85 was 18 hundredths above his season best and as much as 3.19 seconds above his own Swedish record from 2021.

Last year's European Champion and 2022's World Championship silver medalist has had a slow swimming year.

But the Kungsbacka swimmer, who changed Bergen to Oslo together with the long-time coach Karl-Erik Gårdström, is aiming for the Olympic Games in Los Angeles 2028, in that case his fourth Olympic Games.

Beside the record holder Victor Johansson, fourth on 400 meters freestyle and fifth on 800 meters freestyle, it has not gone very well for the Swedes in Singapore so far.

Erik Persson was the second Swede who managed to get past the heats. But in the semifinal it stopped.
