International football association's rule body Ifab has decided to expand the use of cameras in both domestic and international competition contexts.
The purpose is primarily entertainment, with new perspectives for TV viewers, but also a way to evaluate match decisions afterwards for the referees themselves.
It is now considered likely that the referees will wear cameras during next year's football World Championship.
At the same time, the Premier League may use body cameras on a trial basis as early as Sunday's friendly match between Manchester United and Everton in the USA, writes BBC.
The decision to implement body cameras during the Premier League season 2025–26 is being evaluated and requires that two-thirds of the clubs vote yes to the change.
At the same time, it is unclear how often the referees will wear the cameras.
