The children, who were both under ten years old, were found dead in their home on April 23 last year. The man has admitted to killing them by suffocating them to death with the help of helium.
The 37-year-old had, however, denied that the murders were carefully planned, which the prosecutor had claimed. Both the district court and the court of appeal, however, share the prosecutor's assessment in this regard. The court of appeal also agrees with the assessment of the Södertälje district court that the murders were "particularly ruthless."
The defense had requested that the man be sentenced to forensic psychiatric care, but the court of appeal upholds the sentence handed down by the district court. The man will be deported from Sweden after serving his sentence.
