Shortly after 03, the rescue service was alerted to the scene. Then flames burst through the roof of the building, which is approximately 3,000 square meters.
For several hours, a massive rescue effort was underway with around 35 firefighters involved. A total of around 6,000 pigs were in the building when the fire broke out – more than half have died.
There are many pigs that have died, says Christian Andersson, duty officer at the rescue service Norra Älvsborg.
"Like a robot"
Together with the rescue service, the farm staff worked to take care of the evacuated pigs. A task that was described as chaotic early in the morning.
For TTELA, the farm owner reports that everyone is doing okay under the circumstances.
The big emotions haven't come yet. Right now, you're more like a robot. You just do what needs to be done, it can't be more than that, says the owner to the newspaper.
Investigated as gross negligence
In the morning, the fire was extinguished. But there is still extinguishing work to be done, which means that the rescue service will remain on site until the afternoon.
We have dug around with an excavator so that the fire cannot spread further into the part that has been saved. But there will be surveillance for several hours to come, says Christian Andersson.
The police are investigating the incident as gross negligence – currently without any suspected perpetrators.
A technical inspection will be conducted on site once the extinguishing work is complete.
