In 2023, the painting of Princess Tuvstarr, one of artist John Bauer's most famous works, was sold for 6.75 million kronor.
Now, the painting "Sagoflicka" has been sold for 8.75 million at Bukowskis. According to the auction firm, it is a new world record for a work by Bauer.
"Sagoflicka" was painted in 1912 and depicts a young woman combing her long blonde hair on a stone in a forest. John Bauer often drew inspiration for his female figures from his own wife Ester. The painting was exhibited the following year in Stockholm and later in the USA.
John Bauer and his wife died when the steamship Per Brahe sank on Lake Vättern in 1918.
