Israel has attacked a military base in the Tartus area in northwestern Syria, according to Syrian state media and the British-based Syrian Human Rights Observatory (SOHR).
A "powerful explosion shook the Tartus harbor, at the same time as an unknown plane, likely Israeli, flew over", reports SOHR and adds that smoke is seen from the site.
Israel's military confirms that it has hit a military base in northwestern Syria.
