Iranian authorities have released a French prisoner, Louis Arnaud, who was arrested while he was in the country as a tourist.
The news that he has now been released from the notorious Evin Prison in Tehran comes from President Emmanuel Macron, who on X writes that "Louis Arnaud is free. Tomorrow, he will be back in France".
Macron particularly thanks Oman for "the happy outcome" and urges Iran to "without delay" release three other French citizens.
Arnaud was arrested in September 2022, accused of spreading anti-government propaganda. He was sentenced in November last year to five years' imprisonment.
Several Swedes are imprisoned in Iran. This includes, among others, EU official Johan Floderus and the Swedish-Iranian doctor Ahmadreza Djalali, who is accused of espionage. Djalali has been sentenced to death and the prosecutor is seeking the death penalty for Floderus.
