The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) sees an increased risk of mpox spreading in Europe, according to a press release.
"As a result of the rapid outbreak in Africa, ECDC has raised the risk level for the population in the EU and visitors to affected areas. Due to the close connections between Europe and Africa, we must prepare for more imported cases of clade 1", writes Pamela Rendi-Wagner, head of ECDC.
ECDC continues to assess the overall mpox risk for residents in the EU/EEA as low. However, the risk is higher for individuals, such as those with impaired immune systems.
Furthermore, ECDC wants to see clear travel advice for those visiting affected countries in central Africa.
