Hunger Strike for Higher Wages at Evolution

Employees at the Swedish listed online casino company Evolution in Georgia have initiated a hunger strike, reports Svenska Dagbladet Business. Higher salary and better working conditions are on the list of demands.

Hunger Strike for Higher Wages at Evolution

In total, hundreds of the nearly 8,000 employees at Evolution in Georgia have been on strike for some time, following months of protests from the local union.

The strike is being carried out with demands for higher wages and better working conditions, according to the newspaper.

Referring to industry media, the newspaper reports that the average salary in Evolution's Georgian operations is around 440 US dollars per month, but according to union sources in Georgia, this includes managerial salaries in the average.

According to Evolution's head of investor relations, Carl Linton, the company "follows an established process for handling conflicts in the labor market in Georgia".

"Evolution has, and continues to, urge both working and striking employees not to participate in activities that risk harming others or themselves", he writes in a comment to the newspaper.

Evolution's share price is rising in line with the stock market in Thursday's trading, but has fallen 12 percent since the turn of the year.
