In Simrishamn, the project Future Fishing Port is underway, which is about utilizing the entire fish to make fishing more sustainable.
This means, among other things, that the herring roe left over is utilized as a raw material for skin care, reports P4 Kristianstad.
From experience, we know that the employees who work with herring become as smooth as baby bottoms on their hands. We know it works, says Sofia von Scheele Ekström from Skillinge Fisk-Impex to the radio.
In addition to oils, collagen powder is also extracted from the waste, which is said to give smoother skin.
In Finland, they are already working in the same way within the fishing industry. Instead of, as usual, burying the residual products, they extract oils and collagen for cosmetic use.
The Future Fishing Port is a collaborative project between Formas, Lund University, and Kristianstad University College.
