53-year-old Marco Rubio began his political career in the 1990s and is now one of the most well-known Republican politicians. Whether he will ultimately get the post of Secretary of State is not yet entirely clear, but both The New York Times and CNN's sources claim that Trump may change his mind.
The Minister for Internal Security will be South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem, according to two sources to CNN. The former House of Representatives member is an outspoken Trump loyalist who advocates for tougher measures on immigration and refused to wear a face mask during the covid pandemic.
Hated Puppy
Earlier this year, 52-year-old Noem was embroiled in controversy over her own book, in which she describes how she shot and killed an "untrainable" puppy and a stubborn goat on the same day. In the book, Noem writes, among other things, that she "hated that dog", which according to the governor was "more than worthless" as a hunting dog.
The uproar over the dog during the election campaign is believed to have cost her the role of Trump's vice president, according to CNN.
Trump is expected to appoint Republican Congressman Mike Waltz, 50, as National Security Adviser, according to US media. It is a key post in the president's staff at the White House.
Advocates for Peace Negotiations
Waltz, who was re-elected to the House of Representatives last week, is an ardent Trump supporter. He is described as having a hawkish stance on China, has served in the US Army for 27 years – including in the special forces Green Berets – and has combat experience from Afghanistan.
Before the 2022 Winter Olympic Games in Beijing, Waltz advocated for the US to boycott the Games, partly due to the pandemic's origin in China.
He has also expressed support for Trump's plans to act as a peace mediator between Ukraine and Russia, an initiative he described as "perfectly reasonable" in an interview with NPR earlier in November.
