The Greek-French director Costa-Gavras receives this year's honorary award at the Stockholm Film Festival. He receives the award, which is called the Stockholm Lifetime Achievement Award, for having "laid the foundation for the modern political thriller", as stated in the jury's motivation.
The 91-year-old Costa-Gavras, whose real name is Constantinos Gavras, was born in Greece and has been living in France since the beginning of the 1950s. He has made 22 feature films during his career, including "Z" (1969), "Hostage" (1972), "Missing" (1982), and "Betrayed" (1988).
He has won the Palme d'Or in Cannes, the Golden Bear in Berlin, as well as an Oscar in the category of Best International Film.
This year's festival will feature Costa-Gavras' latest film, "Last Breath", and he will receive the honorary award on November 9.
