The oil trading company Gunvor Group, with Swedish billionaire Torbjörn Törnqvist as co-founder and CEO, has helped finance the West African state of Gabon's purchase of the oil company Assala Energy – previously part of the Carlyle group.
Assala Energy has a production volume of 45,000 barrels of crude oil per day and, according to the head of Gabon's state oil company Marcellin Simba Ngabi, will enable the country to regain control over its oil and gas resources and increase the state's oil revenues.
Gabon is one of the smallest member states of the oil cartel Opec, with a total oil production of around 220,000 barrels of crude oil per day.
