The President of the USA is now making good on the previous and recurring threats to raise India's tariffs due to oil purchases from Russia, reports American media.
India has previously been subject to tariffs of 25 percent, and is imposed with an additional 25 percent, which gives the country a total tariff of 50 percent. However, the increase will not be introduced until August 27.
In the presidential order, Trump cites India's "direct or indirect" import of Russian oil as the reason for the new tariffs.
India's Foreign Minister Randhir Jaiswal has previously hinted that both the USA and the EU are throwing stones in a glass house, condemning India's purchase of Russian oil while they themselves are trading with Russia.
