The number of registered unemployed in Sweden has increased from 344,000 people in the second quarter of 2024 to 363,000 in the same period in 2025. At the same time, unemployment has risen from 6.6 to 6.9 percent, the figures show.
However, there are differences in unemployment between the counties.
"The largest increase has occurred in Västerbotten, where extensive notices, layoffs and bankruptcy in battery manufacturing have had a major impact on the labor market," says Marcus Löwing, labor market analyst at the Employment Agency, in a press release.
At the same time, unemployment has decreased in the counties of Dalarna, Gotland, Gävleborg and Norrbotten.
The highest unemployment rate is in Skåne with 9 percent, while Norrbotten has the lowest unemployment rate with 3.8 percent.
