The two winners started as small local manufacturers, but are now owned by a food company and the manufacturing takes place in the Netherlands – far from Alvesta and Järna. However, this is only mentioned in a small text on the back of the packaging and not at all in advertising texts about the brands and their history.
Clear bluff, thought almost a third of the 24,352 who voted.
"If you have a place name or something that connects to a specific origin in the name, then you also have a greater responsibility for how it is perceived by the consumer," says Björn Bernhardson, operations manager and co-founder of Genuine Product, in a press release.
The Food Bluff of the Year has been awarded by the Genuine Product Association since 2015.
