"The Swedish Football Association shows no interest whatsoever in the workers' conditions. They don't seem to care the least that another World Championship is being played at the cost of thousands of dead migrant workers", says Kim Söderström, Byggnads' chairman, in a press release.

"What is going on in Saudi Arabia is nothing but modern slavery", says Söderström.

Byggnads reports that the international construction union BWI, together with human rights organizations Amnesty and Human Rights Watch, has collected over 20,000 testimonies and individual cases of exploitation of migrant workers in the country.

The decision on the hosting of the World Championship 2034 will be made at FIFA's (International Football Association) congress on December 11.

Saudi Arabia is the only candidate.
