She is now at risk of imprisonment and is being demanded 1.3 million kronor by the Insurance Agency, writes Sydsvenskan.
According to a medical certificate, the woman, who in 2016 fell into a deep depression, was so ill that she could not even go out. But in the autumn of 2023, the authorities suspected that this was not true and a control showed that the woman's annual income was higher than the average Swede's – excluding sickness benefit.
Primarily, it concerned fees as a trustee. She is also said to have received compensation for serving as a lay judge in various trials.
In addition, she is said to have been paid in periods as a so-called "mystery shopper" – a person who pretends to shop in stores to check customer service.
The woman, who denies the crime and claims she did not understand the Insurance Agency's rules, is being prosecuted for gross benefit fraud. If convicted, the minimum sentence is six months' imprisonment.
