White snus, also called nicotine pouches, will be banned in France, announces the country's health minister.
The government aims to introduce a ban within the coming weeks. It is their duty to stop nicotine pouches when they have become commonly used among young people, says Health Minister Geneviève Darrieussecq to the newspaper Le Parisien :
They are dangerous products because they contain high doses of nicotine.
The marketing of these products is also largely targeted at young people, adds Darrieussecq. According to her, French authorities receive an increasing number of alarm calls from people who have experienced "acute nicotine symptoms".
Corrected: In an earlier version, the wrong product was stated to be banned.
