In the hundred most profitable American films, women had one of the leading roles in 54, according to a study conducted by the University of Southern California.
This is the first time that gender equality has been achieved in the profitable films, says Stacy L Smith at the university to Reuters.
According to her, the change is a result of a number of conscious efforts, including the diversity and equality strategies that President Donald Trump has now got, among others, Disney to back away from.
However, when it comes to skin color and ethnicity, the development is the opposite. The annual report USC Annenberg Inclusion Initiative shows an increased dominance of white actors in leading roles, according to Reuters.
