A massive water leak paralyzed parts of central Jönköping on Monday. It is the second to affect the city in a short time.
I got water in here last summer, so I had just managed to get back after the renovation, says Emelie Svartz, who runs the beauty salon Dione Beauty with Care.
When the water started pouring in this time, she had just gotten ready to receive a customer.
There was water everywhere. We tried to grab towels by the door and shut out the water, but it went so fast, says Emelie Svartz.
"I almost froze to death"
In an hour and a half, she estimates that the premises were flooded.
We couldn't get out, and outside on the street, there was just more water, so we had nowhere to go. We had to stand there for an hour and a half. We almost froze to death, she says.
My lips were blue and my hands were ice-cold.
The Municipality: Significant Damage
By 2 pm, the water was gone from the salon – but the chaos caused by the leak is still evident, with thick mud covering the entire floor. Emelie Svartz estimates that hundreds of thousands of kronor have been lost.
Not to mention the mental strain.
You feel very empty. I have tenants who didn't even get to start their business. All their interior was brand new. It's a shock.
According to the municipality, the water leak caused "significant damage" while thousands were left without water. Another affected store owner tells how the water came from different directions.
It just poured in, says Keryakus Sauma to P4 Jönköping, and adds that the water came into his shoe and key store from three, four different directions.
