Fear of Misfires After the Murder in Malmö

The man was shot to death in the middle of the night in an apartment in southern Malmö. There is no known threat against him, and neighbors are now afraid of being next in line. We have pulled down the blinds and don't open any windows, says one of the neighbors.

The police suspect that the man, who is in his 50s, was shot from the outside through a window. They are investigating whether it was a so-called misfire.

This has caused neighbors to feel anxious that shots can hit anyone, anywhere, and at any time.

We are extremely worried, of course. You don't know why they shot at our house, says a neighbor who lives on the same floor as the fatal shooting occurred.

Rebecca Tolic Olofsson, local police chief in Fosie, says they are aware of the anxiety and have taken action with extra resources.

We experienced that there were mostly questions at the beginning. There are certainly many who still have fear, but it's starting to calm down.

However, nearby residents have not yet received an answer as to why shots were fired at a house in their area.

After another day's work, we have not been able to see that there is any threat against anyone living in that apartment, but we still can't determine what's behind this, says police spokesperson Nils Norling.

A teenage boy is being held on suspicion of, among other things, murder. The police are investigating whether he was given the task of carrying out the murder by others.

We are still very interested in all observations from Sunday evening onwards. The areas that are of interest are Kastanjegården and Högaholm.
