"The information from the government is very meager," says Chairperson Åsa Persson in a comment to TT.

However, the council, which has been tasked with reviewing the government's climate policy, welcomes "proposals that can reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the short term and help us reach the climate goals for 2030," Åsa Persson continues, saying:

"This applies not least to the transport sector. Not all measures can wait for the announced investigation that has not yet been appointed."

The council will return with its assessment of the government's overall climate policy – and its effects on emissions – in its annual report. In the latest review, it was found that the policy decided on last year leads to increased emissions.

The Environmental Protection Agency has no comments on the emission effects, as the agency has not seen the proposal or been tasked with calculating it.
