Apple's rules for the App Store breach the EU's digital market laws, DMA. This is the view of the EU Commission in a preliminary investigation now being sent to the internet giant for a response.
Among other things, it is claimed that the fees Apple charges other developers "go beyond what is strictly necessary".
"We are firmly determined to use the clear and effective tools in the DMA to finally open up real opportunities for innovators and consumers", says Internal Market Commissioner Thierry Breton in a statement.
The Commission has been conducting several investigations since earlier this year into how Apple and other internet giants are complying with the DMA. In the worst-case scenario, the companies risk hefty fines of up to 10 per cent of their global turnover.
