The EU has initiated two cases to get Apple to open up the operating system in iPad and iPhone for products and software from other technology companies, writes the EU Commission in a press release.
The demands are based on the regulations surrounding how large technology companies in key market positions should act according to the EU's new regulation on digital markets.
The EU Commission wants Apple's operating system to be opened up so that, for example, smartwatches, headphones, and different types of headsets from other manufacturers work with iPhone headphones. The EU will also take a closer look at how Apple handles questions from developers and third parties regarding getting technology to work on Apple's products.
The dialogue with Apple is expected to be concluded within six months, a period that the Commission will use to present specific demands for action and then conclude with a public summary of how Apple has handled the demands.
