New EU rules to counter the devastation of rainforests will come into force from the end of December 2025.
With 546 votes against 97, the EU Parliament finally approved on Tuesday the postponement that the EU Commission had wanted to give companies and member states more time to adapt to the new rules.
The rules impose stricter requirements on importers of, among other things, coffee, timber, and other products that must be able to certify that they were not grown on land that was previously rainforest.
