Greenhouse gas emissions within the EU are expected to decrease significantly by 2030, according to an analysis from the Environmental Protection Agency. However, the reduction is not sufficient to meet the targets for the ESR sector, which primarily concerns emissions from transportation and agriculture. They are also not expected to be enough to meet the targets within the LULUCF sector, which relates to forest and land use.
Eva Jernbäcker, climate analyst at the Environmental Protection Agency, says in a press release that several EU countries are increasing their ambitions.
"However, overall, this is not enough to fulfill the EU's common goals, and the conditions for trading emission allowances between member states look limited."
