With only a quarter of the game played in the first playoff match against Molde, Ahmed Qasem was able to put 1–0 for visiting Elfsborg. But if the home fans who had made their way to the arena had hoped to see their Molde shift into higher gear, they were disappointed.

The home team created virtually nothing that could threaten in the first half and Elfsborg could go into halftime with a well-deserved lead.

Molde, however, seemed to have taken advantage of the break, as the team came out in the second half significantly more lively than they had been in the first 45 minutes.

Despite this, Elfsborg was able to hold out and win the match 1–0. This has given the Borås team an excellent position ahead of the return match at home in a week's time.

If, despite everything, it becomes a loss in this final qualifying stage for the Europa League, Elfsborg will be waiting for play in the autumn's Conference League.
