Serious misconduct at a nursing home in Sunne municipality has been reported since it emerged that residents were not allowed to use the toilet – but were forced to do their business on a plastic sheet in their own beds, hanging in lifting slings, reports Nya Wermlands-Tidningen.

The municipality has now reported itself to the Health and Social Care Inspectorate under the lex Sarah regulations.

A tool has been used incorrectly. We actually use lifts to move a customer from bed to hygiene chair, if they need to do their business, says Frida Vasiliou, social responsible coordinator at the municipality, to the newspaper.

According to Vasiliou, the method can cause injuries and be perceived as degrading.

It's tragic, but that's how it's been. But now we're addressing it, she says.
