The battles between Sudan's military and the paramilitary RSF have escalated in recent weeks in Zamzam, where over half a million people live.
"Despite widespread famine and enormous humanitarian needs, we have no other choice but to make the decision to suspend all activities in the camp, including MSF's field hospital," MSF announced on Monday.
"Suspending our project in the midst of a worsening disaster in Zamzam is a heart-wrenching decision," says Yahya Kalilah at MSF in Sudan in a statement.
RSF stormed Zamzam on February 11, leading to two days of clashes with the military and allied militias. Doctors Without Borders received 139 injured patients during the first three weeks of February, most with gunshot and shrapnel wounds.
RSF has been at war with Sudan's army since April 2023. Tens of thousands of people have been killed in the war, which has caused what the UN describes as the world's largest refugee crisis.
