We have of course stated that if the verdict were to be carried out, it would have very serious consequences for bilateral relations, says the Minister for Foreign Affairs to TT.
She does not want to go into details about what was said in the conversation with Iran, ”out of consideration for how sensitive the matter is”.
But we will continue to do everything in our power to have Djalali released for humanitarian reasons, says Maria Malmer Stenergard.
The prison was attacked
Ahmadreza Djalali was in Evin prison, which was attacked by Israel on Monday morning. The same afternoon, it was announced that he had been moved to an unknown location - which often happens before the execution of those sentenced to death in Iran.
Malmer Stenergard says that the news of the move is alarming, and that the Swedish embassy in Tehran is in contact with local authorities. However, on Tuesday, it was announced that all prisoners, not just Djalali, had been transported from the prison.
Letter from the wife
In a letter to Ulf Kristersson, Ahmadreza Djalali's wife Vida Mehrannia writes that the situation is critical. She asks the Prime Minister to raise Djalali's case during the Nato summit in The Hague, which began on Tuesday. TT asks Maria Malmer Stenergard if there are plans to do so.
If we assess that it can lead to a result, we always have contact with various allies and colleagues around the world. Many have also become involved in Djalali's case, she replies.
