Judge Juan Merchan also announces that he allows Trump's lawyers to submit motions to completely dismiss the case, reports CNBC. The documents need to be submitted according to the judge's decision no later than December 2, and then the prosecutors will respond no later than December 9, according to CNN.
Merchan will also wait to announce his decision on presidential immunity until he has reviewed the parties' submissions.
As a result of the decision, the sentence will not be announced on Tuesday, as previously planned.
"In a decisive victory for President Trump, the bluff lawsuit in Manhattan is now completely suspended and the decision on sentencing is postponed", says spokesperson Steven Cheung in a statement, writes AFP.
In light of the Supreme Court's decision this summer, which grants the president extended legal immunity, Trump's lawyers have requested that the verdict be overturned and the case completely dismissed.
Trump was found guilty in May on 34 counts in the case involving the so-called hush money. The trial concerned allegations that Trump ordered payments to individuals, primarily porn actress Stormy Daniels, who threatened to reveal sensitive information about him during the 2016 presidential campaign – and then tried to conceal it in the accounting of his companies.
