The "Twin Peaks" director David Lynch has been afflicted with emphysema after several years of smoking, reports Independent.
In an interview, he says he cannot leave his home, out of fear of getting sick with covid-19.
It would be very bad for me to get sick, to even get a cold, he says, and means that if he were to direct again, it would have to be done remotely.
In a post on X, Lynch himself announces the news.
"I really enjoyed smoking, and I love tobacco, but there is a price to pay for that pleasure, and for me, the price is emphysema", he writes.
He continues by writing that he has been smoke-free for two years, and that the latest tests show that he is in good shape.
"I am filled with happiness, and will never retire", he concludes the post.
In emphysema, lung tissue is damaged, which means it becomes harder to breathe. It is common for emphysema to be part of the lung disease COPD.
