Dahlqvist breaks "the tour" – has fallen ill

The distance star Maja Dahlqvist breaks off Tour de Ski in Italy due to illness and travels home to Sweden. "It was fun as long as it lasted… but it just doesn't want to work out for me in 2024", the 30-year-old writes on Instagram.

Dahlqvist reached the final in the initial sprint, but broke her pole and finished last. In the second stage, the 30-year-old finished 45th in the mass start, which covered 15 kilometers in classical style.

"Maja Dahlqvist woke up with cold symptoms and will not start today's 20 km. She is thus abandoning the Tour de Ski and heading home", writes the ski national team according to Aftonbladet.

Dahlqvist has missed several World Cup competitions this season. She finished third in the sprint in the premiere in Ruka at the end of November, but then caught a cold and missed the competitions in Lillehammer and Davos.

Earlier, Johanna Hagström also abandoned the "tour". Hagström only competed in the sprint competition, but then dropped out due to cold symptoms.

Only five Swedish women will start in the third stage, which covers 20 kilometers of freestyle with individual starts.
