It is precisely reading promotion that is being highlighted. The reading ability of Swedish students has deteriorated, the government notes, and is therefore increasing the allocation. This investment is financed by withdrawing the equivalent of ten million kronor from an allocation to the School Inspection.
The country's cultural magazines are reducing their print runs and number of issues after two years of reduced government allocations. Can cultural magazines then receive a share of the 10 million kronor? Siri Reuterstrand, chairperson of the Association of Sweden's Cultural Magazines, dare not hope for it.
Maybe our pot will be smaller in the end, but it doesn't show here, she says.
Several allocations are also being increased for authorities to digitize cultural heritage, which is expected to create more jobs: the allocation to the National Music Institute is being increased by 2.3 million kronor, the central museums are receiving an additional 16.2 million kronor, museum foundations are receiving 9.2 million kronor more, and film support is being increased by 2.3 million kronor.
Culture Minister Parisa Liljestrand (The Moderate Party) and Minister for Civil Defence Carl-Oskar Bohlin (The Moderate Party) have previously presented an investment in making the National Archives and the National Heritage Board crisis preparedness authorities. For this, the government wants to allocate 4 million kronor.
The government is simultaneously allocating 10 million kronor to the National Archives to train language models for AI, which is expected to accelerate the digitization of socially critical information in the event of a crisis or war.
