Mette-Marit's son Marius Borg Høiby is released

The detention of Crown Princess Mette-Marit's son Marius Borg Høiby will not be extended, Norwegian police announce. This means that the 27-year-old will be released, despite the suspicions of rape that recently emerged and that according to the police, there are new suspicions of further sexual offenses.

"We can no longer see that there is a risk of evidence being destroyed", explains prosecutor Andreas Kruszewski in a press release.

"During the week he has been in custody, the police have gone through seizures and conducted a significant number of interrogations".

Marius Borg Høiby is accused, among other things, of two cases of rape. The latest was discovered after his arrest last week and is said to involve sexual intercourse with a 20-year-old woman without her consent and without her being able to resist, according to the investigators.

Marius Borg Høiby has no royal title. When he was four years old, his mother became involved with Norway's Crown Prince Haakon. He has been making headlines ever since he was arrested in August, suspected of assaulting a woman he had a relationship with.

He later admitted to using violence against his girlfriend and that he had used alcohol and cocaine at the time. Several other allegations of violence against former girlfriends, as well as death threats against a man, have since emerged.
